The Little Things: DOGS!

If you know me at all you know that I! LOVE! DOGS! Big ones, small ones, pedigreed poodles or rescue mutts - I love them all! Lucky for me you can't swing a dead cat in West Hartford without hitting a dog. People are big on dogs here; whenever I go out I try and spot a "Puppy Six Pack," or six dogs out and about.

Which is awesome, seeing as I don't have a dog of my own - yet. After we're done saving for our wedding, my next project is to save up for a dog, but in the meantime the folks I encounter while out and about are usually happy to let me give some free belly rubs to their own pups. We've got plenty of animal welfare groups and shelters, so when I'm ready I can have my pick of doggies that need a forever home. And there's a group of people working to get a dog park built in West Hartford.

Another cool thing: Somewhere around here is a training academy for dogs that help the disabled. Sometimes when I'm out in the town center I'll see the trainers with the dogs, getting them used to the hustle and bustle of the outside world and teaching the dogs how to stay focused on their task of helping their human companion. That's pretty awesome.

So, in conclusion, you don't have to be a dog lover to live in Connecticut, but it helps.
